Manchin Leads W.Va. In Federal Fundraising

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia's congressional incumbents continue to increase their campaign funds ahead of this year's elections.

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin led the delegation for money raised from January through March with nearly $884,000. The Democrat also had the biggest campaign balance at $2.7 million.

Republican John Raese seeks to challenge Manchin in November. The Morgantown industrialist had an $118,000 balance after receiving $146,700.

The state's Republican U.S. House members each attracted around $250,000 during the period. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito had $1.2 million on hand heading into the May 8 primary. Rep. David McKinley had nearly that amount.

State legislator Jonathan Miller opposes Capito in the GOP primary. He had $566 on hand after raising $2,800 mostly from himself.

Democratic Rep. Nick Rahall had an $823,000 balance after raising around $100,000.
