Mountaineer Gas Seeks Rate Reduction

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Lower natural gas costs are prompting Mountaineer Gas Co. to seek a 10.8 percent rate reduction for the average residential customer.

The utility filed the request Wednesday with the state Public Service Commission.

Mountaineer Gas still has pending before the commission a request made last year for a 4.9 percent base-rate increase.

The Charleston Daily Mail reports that if approved, the requests overall would reduce residential customers' rates by 5.38 percent, or $3.38 a month, over the next year.

Mountaineer Gas has more than 226,000 customers in 48 counties.
