COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Democratic candidate for Ohio attorney general is calling for increased drug addiction treatment to combat the state's heroin epidemic.

David Pepper is also promoting a plan to get drugs and dealers off the streets and to put overdose-antidotes in the hands of emergency responders.

Pepper planned to introduce his anti-heroin strategy at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Communities across Ohio are struggling with heroin overdose deaths and crime waves related to addicts trying to feed their habit.

Pepper's opponent, Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine, has called the problem an epidemic and created a special unit to beef up investigations of heroin rings.
