ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio University is taking part in a federally funded project aimed at boosting chances for children to spend time with both parents when the parents don't live together.

The Athens Messenger reports that the school's College of Health Sciences and Professions will be involved in the $400,000 project.

Twelve Ohio counties and a number of family support agencies, judicial officials and others also will take part in the four-year project.

Officials told the newspaper that the goal is to come up with best practices for establishing parenting time orders.

Participants will look at whether changes are needed to ensure that court orders for parenting time for noncustodial parents are established at the same time as orders for paying child support. Typically, the orders aren't prepared at the same time.
