TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Police officers in Ohio came to the rescue of a family after thieves broke into their home and took everything from under their tree either late Christmas Eve or early Christmas morning.
Officers in Toledo say they didn't want the family's 4-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy to go without any presents on Christmas. So they collected money from officers who had gathered for a holiday party and then bought toys at one of the few stores still open.
Officers told The Blade newspaper that customers and store employees joined in the shopping spree. It took four patrol cars to deliver all the gifts.
Police officers Raymond Espinosa says it was obvious that the family didn't have a whole lot so it was even more important to help them out.
