AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Police in Ohio say a woman posing as a veterinarian treated dogs and cats for over two years at animal hospital and that some of the animals apparently died in her care.

The Akron woman has been charged with practicing without a license and injuring animals, as well as drug charges.

Police in Akron suspect that Brandi Tomko treated dozens of animals from 2009 to 2011. Investigators say she was pretending to be a vet and taking cash for her work to support a drug habit.

Police say they are getting more tips that likely will result in additional charges. A message seeking comment was left with Tomko's attorney Monday.

Investigators say the animal clinic did have veterinarians before they all quit, leaving the clinic without any licensed vets.
