Randolph Co. Deputy Suspended In Wreck Probe

ELKINS, W.V. (AP) - The Randolph County Sheriff's Department is investigating the action of an off-duty deputy at the scene of an accident involving a volunteer fire department chief.

Sheriff's officials tell media outlets that the deputy was acting as volunteer firefighter at the time of the accident. He has been suspended with pay pending an internal investigation to determine whether he violated any departmental policies or procedures.

The deputy's name hasn't been released.

State Police say a truck driven by Beverly Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jeffrey D. Pritt wrecked on Dec. 17. Pritt was charged with leaving the scene, failure to report a crash and driving left of center.

State Police say another member of the fire department who claimed to be the driver hasn't been charged.
