Some OH Girl Scouts Won't Sell Cookies Over Camps

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Some Girl Scouts in northeast Ohio are refusing to sell the organization's familiar cookies, to protest a decision to sell four scout camps.

Scout leaders say pockets of girls throughout an 18-county region are boycotting the annual cookie drive.

The protesters include 14 members of a troop in Aurora, about 20 miles east of Cleveland. Their leader tells the Akron Beacon Journal the scouts will babysit or do other jobs to pay for their activities, instead of selling cookies.

Chief financial officer John Graves with the Girl Scouts' North East Ohio council says the organization depends on the girls.

Officials have said selling four of the region's seven camps would provide money to make improvements at remaining ones.
