US Grant Overturned On Ohio Turnpike Lease Study

CLEVELAND (AP) - Washington has reversed course on a grant that would allow Ohio to study leasing its Turnpike but says it would consider a revised request.

Ohio members of Congress opposed to leasing learned Friday that Washington will not allow the state to use the grant as originally planned.

Gov. John Kasich has been pushing the study as a way to get the most benefit from the 241-mile toll road across northern Ohio.

Supporters of leasing say it would provide a financial windfall. Opponents say it could lead to higher tolls and poor maintenance.

The Federal Highway Administration says Ohio's original request was approved but overturned on closer review. The agency says it will review any revised grant request.

The Kasich administration says it's preparing a comment on the federal decision.
