W.V. Awards 1,175 Permits For Limited Deer Hunts

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The Division of Natural Resources has awarded 1,175 permits for limited antlerless deer hunts around West Virginia.

The DNR said Thursday that it received more than 1,500 valid applications for the permits, which were awarded randomly in a drawing. The hunts are restricted to West Virginia residents.

More than half the permits were awarded for a limited hunt at the Stonewall Jackson Wildlife Management Area.

Other limited hunts are planned at the Bluestone, Elk River, Stonecoal and Teter Creek Lake wildlife management areas and on public lands in Grant and Tucker counties.

The DNR says wildlife biologists have determined that limited hunts in these areas are needed to meet deer management objectives.
