W.V. Mom Accused Of Leaving Son Alone In Cold Car
MORGANTOWN, W.V. (AP) - A woman accused of leaving her 7-year-old son in a cold car alone while she drank at a bar will be in court next month.
The Dominion Post says 31-year-old Mary Kathryn Wetzel was drinking at Mundy's Bar in Morgantown around 3 a.m. on Thanksgiving.
Police say the boy called 911 after waking up alone. The temperature dropped to 32 degrees while he was in the car. He was wearing pants, a T-shirt and socks, and had a small blanket and pillow.
Wetzel is charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury and could get one to five years in prison if convicted. She's free on $10,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing Dec. 13.
A representative for Wetzel declined comment. The child is living with a relative.
