HUNTINGTON, W.V. (AP) - Hundreds of Huntington residents turned out in opposition to a proposed barge-fleeting facility along the Ohio River.

The Herald-Dispatch reports residents voiced their concerns Tuesday night during a public hearing on the facility in the city's Westmoreland neighborhood. The facility would hold up to 90 barges along a stretch of riverbank.

Huntington Marine Services has been trying for 17 years to get permission to build the facility. The hearing was the final step before the Army Corps of Engineers decides whether to issue a permit.

The project has been the target of numerous court cases.

Residents claim it will create coal dust, noise pollution and riverbank erosions.
