W.V. Struggling To Fix For Hundreds Of Road Slips

WHEELING, W.V. (AP) - The Division of Highways says it has to prioritize repairs to more than 420 slips along Northern Panhandle roads because of a lack of funding.

The Intelligencer says problem areas in Tyler, Wetzel, Marshall, Ohio and Brooke counties are marked by orange cones and barrels.

More than half are in Marshall County. It's followed by Wetzel County, with 93 slips.

Acting District 6 Maintenance Engineer Paul Hicks says officials are constantly re-evaluating the slips to decide which to tackle first. They consider average daily traffic and whether the pavement is directly affected.

Top priority goes to those that have caused depressions of 3 inches or more in the pavement

Hicks says he'd need $25 million to fix them all. He gets about $1 million a year.
