CHARLESTON, W.V. (AP) - State officials plan to upgrade exterior lighting around the Capitol Complex to improve energy efficiency and replace lamps that no longer work.

The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/oA7vyq ) reports that the Capitol Building Commission approved the project Wednesday.

General Services Division architect Bob Crousy told the commission that at least 11 lamps aren't functioning. The complex's exterior lamps were installed in the mid-1970s.

Incandescent bulbs used in the lamps will be replaced with LED bulbs that are more energy efficient and produce more light.

The project is expected to cost $22,000.
