CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly in August to 6.3 percent.
WorkForce West Virginia said Tuesday the number of unemployed people rose by 700 to 49,600 last month.
West Virginia's unemployment rate in July was 6.2 percent. The August rate is a full percentage point below the U.S. average.
Through August, total state unemployment is down 11,600.
While manufacturing jobs were down in August employment increased in mining and logging. Construction jobs were up.
