W.Va. GOP Looks at Revising Presidential Selection

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Mike Stuart wants to make it easier for GOP voters to participate in the party's selection of a presidential nominee in 2012.

Stuart tells The Intelligencer that he wants to eliminate the online registration and voting process used in 2008 to select delegates to the state GOP presidential convention. He says the process was confusing.

He expects the process to be replaced with county Republican conventions held simultaneously in all 55 counties. Delegates to the state convention would be chosen at the county meetings.

Stuart says the West Virginia Republican Executive Committee is expected to vote on proposed rule changes at its summer conference in Shepherdstown. The conference begins July 22.
