CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A union-formed political committee in West Virginia received $250,000 from a construction labor interest group.

The super PAC named Honest West Virginians received the check from the West Virginia State Building & Construction Trades Council in late June.

AFL-CIO treasurer Josh Sword says his group started the committee last month to combat opposing outside spending on elections.

With several competitive congressional and state races, Sword says the group is still planning its involvement. Unions typically support Democrats.

Already, $3.3 million from third-party groups have flooded the re-election campaign of Democratic Congressman Nick Rahall.

The conservative Americans for Prosperity and American Energy Alliance spent $2 million of that on anti-Rahall ads. The liberal House Majority PAC invested $1.1 million to attack his opponent, Democrat-turned-Republican state Sen. Evan Jenkins.
