With the new year rapidly approaching, local law enforcement officials are asking all drivers to enjoy the celebrations responsibly.

Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in full force New Year's Eve and Day on the lookout for anyone behind the wheel who's had one-two many to drink and those who aren't buckled up.

Seven Ohio motorists died last year in alcohol related crashes between Christmas and New Year's.

Troopers say this year they've arrested over 23,000 people for driving under the influence.

"When you see somebody, just encourage them to not to get behind the wheel, there's too much at risk, too much at stake if you're out drinking and driving. It's just isn't you that affects if something happens, that's your entire family, it could be anybody's family," says Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Timothy Gossett.

Highway patrol encourages motorists to report any impaired drivers and drug activity by pressing #677 on their cell phone.
