It's a rough ride on the west end of the Memorial Bridge, especially heading west.
The expansion joint needs maintenance and it's coming soon.
Justin Smith, city engineer for Parkersburg says they'll work on the problem this spring as soon as the weather is good and money becomes available.
There's a contract out to repair the joint; it's inspected annually by their consultant and the bridge was deemed safe for car traffic.
“The cost of the repair to the bridge for that joint is approximately $250,000,” Smith says. “Those are the original joints from 1956, so they don't often have to be replaced. We've only replaced one since I’ve been here.”
Once the joint is replaced, Smith says drivers can expect a smoother ride and it should alleviate any further problems.
