UPDATE: Woman Accused Of Hitting Trooper Turns Herself In

The woman accused of hitting a state police trooper with her car has turned herself into police.

Jennifer Garretson is charged with malicious wounding after she hit a West Virginia State Trooper with her car on Monday. It happened after an apparent shoplifting attempt in St. Albans.

The trooper was off-duty but tried to apprehend her. Police say she hit the trooper and kept driving.

The trooper, Sgt. Aaron Nichols remains stable in intensive care at a Charleston hospital on Wednesday.

Police say this isn't the first time he's been hurt when doing his job. In 2002, he was attacked while serving a domestic order.

UPDATE: St. Albans Police have named a person of interest in the case of an off- duty trooper hit by a car.

The West Virginia State Police is asking for help locating 34 year old Jennifer Gareston. Her description: 159 lbs, Brown Eyes, Sandy Brown Hair) . The car she is driving is described as a small dark colored compact car with rust along the bottom.

Her last known address is 1429 Lee Street East, Charleston, WV 24301.

Information concerning Ms. Garretson's location may be submitted anonymously, if necessary, to the nearest detachment of the West Virginia State Police or the St. Albans Police Department at 304-348-8111.

The troopers name isn't being released at this time. He is at a Charleston hospital with serious injuries.

An off-duty West Virginia State Trooper is in the hospital after being hit by a car.

It happened Monday evening around 5:00 at the St. Albans Mall.

Police say a woman hit the trooper with her car while fleeing from a shoplifting incident. The off-duty trooper was trying to apprehend the woman.

The trooper is in the intensive care unit at a Charleston hospital.

Police are asking for your help finding her or her car.

She's described as in her 30s, wearing a long sleeve pink shirt and boots and has medium length wavy brown hair.

Police say she is driving a small dark colored compact car with rust along the bottom.
