A successful and busy weekend in Marietta as hundreds of people flooded the streets for the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival.

Officials say the weekend was a success and a safe time for everyone.

Captain Jeff Waite of the Marietta Police Separtment says there were no real incidents and he was happy with the weekend.

Ohio DNR says there were no boating incidents and they only arrested one person under the influence operating a personal boat.

Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jeri Knowlton says she couldn't be happier with how the weekend went.

Officials say the great weather played a big part in number of people that came out to enjoy and packed the streets all weekend.

The Ohio River Sternwheel Festival ended on a successful note Sunday afternoon.

"We had perfect weather of course, we had fantastic entertainment so far and everyone I talked to thought last night's fireworks were the best ever, they had some shows that had never been seen before in the United States," says Ohio River Sternwheel Festival Director General, Mike Spahr.

People like Connie Hines and Robert McIntosh who came to the event on their boats enjoy every minute of attending a festival they're truly proud of.

"The entertainment's been fantastic, we had gobs and gobs of fun, we had wonderful friends on the boat and it's just great, we look forward to next year," added Hines.

"Always the fireworks, you know the fireworks are always awesome. The entertainment, they always get good entertainment, some local, some abroad and it's just super good," replied McIntosh.

Sternwheel lovers got to see various live performances, classic hot rides and of course, the river race.

They also got to tour inside a U.S. Coast Guard ship, an attraction not a lot people know existed at the festival.

"The big thing we really focus on coming to this festival is the support of it being a steamboat festival. It's a great event that goes on all the time, we like to make our presence here. A lot of the reason that these rivers are maintained are from our aids in navigation, it runs a whole eighth of a mile 341 on the Ohio River," U.S. Coast Guard Senior Technician 2nd Class, Brian Moehler said.

The experience at this year's Ohio River Sternwheel Festival brings back so many memories.

"Just sitting here on the river bank watching the crowd go by. Numbers in the morning start out thin then you see them come in on Friday and they start laying their chairs, their blankets out, saving their spots for the fireworks, then just watch the crowd fill up," says McIntosh.

The Ohio River Sternwheel Festival Committee say they look forward to make the event a much better experience for people next year.

The chase, Wannabeatles and John A. Walsh were among the entertainers performing on stage.
