The first president of the United States is honored on the 225th anniversary of his inauguration.
Sons of the American Revolution leads this historic milestone of George Washington, soldier and statesman.
Washington was significant to the early settlers here, many of whom served directly under the commander of the Continental Army and knew him personally.
County Commissioner David White says Marietta’s history is richly tied to the first president and the early state of this country, so it's fitting to commemorate him in Washington County.
“It's very important that our future generations never lose sight of the importance of the foundations of this county and George Washington is of course -- first in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen,” he says.
This event serves as a reminder about the entire history of the founders of this country.
