It was an inspiring day to recognize accomplishments and milestones in black history.
Whitman chapel AME Church of Belpre hosted their 15th annual Black History Month celebration on Saturday.
Ray Simmons, planning committee chairman at the church says they welcomed members from around the valley.
Everyone spent time with friends and shared in the festivities of their legacy.
"To me black history is more than just a month," Simmons says. "To me black history means the way you live and the way you carry yourself, because it's within yourself that you have pride that makes you who you are. "To me it's more than just a month; it's a lifestyle."
Simmons says the event allowed them to come together as a people to celebrate and reminisce.
He called it a bridge between their past and the present.
