Wilmington, Ohio (AP) -- Gov. Ted Strickland says the state is seeking federal funds to help boost job training and unemployment compensation for workers in the southwest Ohio city where DHL is closing its air shipping hub.

Strickland was in Wilmington on Tuesday to dedicate a military service memorial on Veterans Day. But after Monday's announcement by DHL express that it will end its U.S. domestic deliveries by January 30, Strickland added economic meetings with local officials to his schedule.

He told them the state is pursuing a $3.8 million Department of Labor grant to help pay for job training for some of the nearly 10,000 workers expected to lose jobs.

He also said Ohio will likely seek federal loans to help pay for unemployment compensation due to the DHL closure and other recent large layoffs across the state.
