Pleasants County authorities are saying an amber alert for a seven-year-old girl being sent through text messages is fake.
The St. Marys Police Department received calls about the alert all day Tuesday.
St. Marys Police Chief, Bill Stull said there are no reports of a missing or abducted child in Pleasants county.
However, Chief Stull said even though the alert was bogus, it was great to see how quickly it circulated and the number of people who responded.
"Everybody wanted to grab their shotgun off the wall and help go hunt the guy down, but completely the entire story was bogus," Chief Stull said.
He also said whoever is responsible could be in trouble with the federal government and will be facing several charges.
