One Athens County community is looking for a new leader.
Chauncey Mayor Ginger Mender resigned from the position in a letter that was released Monday afternoon.
In her letter, Mender said that the last several months had made it difficult to effectively do her job.
Late last week a petition to remove Mender from office was dismissed by Athens County Prosecutor David Warren.
The council had sought to have Mender removed from office, charging she had acted in a manner in violation of her legal duties.
Warren says council members acted on news media reports about the mayor's conduct in office rather than on independent investigations.
