Another round of layoffs in the Mid Ohio Valley is leaving 48 Wood County workers out of a job.

Early Monday, Sabic Innovative Plastics announced it was cutting the positions from its Washington plant.

According to company spokesman Sheila Naab the cuts are part of the company's global restructuring.

The 48 positions lost at the plant will come from maintenance, material handling, and administration.

Employees will receive severance packages and out placement opportunities.

Sabic eliminated 14 positions at the plant late last year.

Sabic bought the plant in September 2007 from General Electric Plastics.

I tried to find more info about Sabic and did not find them listed on the Stock Market. I understood it was individuals that had less than 20 yrs working for GE/Sabic. With less than 20 years the people may not draw retirement...Right? How many people still work at the Sabic Plant?

This is the 2nd time in 5 years that I have been LO here. The 1st time it was because headcount had to be reduced to pacify headquarders at Pittsville. 5 months later I came back to work because they needed all who were let go. This time, the economy is so beat down, that there are practically no orders coming to the plant. I don't like losing my job, but I'm surprised it's still open. Good luck to all who got the proverbial axe, may God bless, and let's all start buying stuff to get all the plants and businesses back on the road to recovery.

I think the only way we ever get manufacturing jobs back is if we produce something that can't be outsourced. Green jobs are great if we can make stuff that isn't outsourced. Obama wanted to put a "Buy American" clause in the stimulus package so that all projects they funded could only use American made materials but many in congress voted it down because they said it would isolate us....well we will be very isolated when we have no jobs or money.

Why did they pick on the guys that have been there over 20 yrs, so much for seniority. or have they not hired a new employee for 20yrs? They doesn't say much for job stability and growth of the company.

It is not just the Mid-Ohio valley, it is all over the USA. We have all bargain shopped our own jobs away. All of the businesses leave the U.S.A. both for cheaper labor and get away from the E.P.A. and other fine $$ driven groups. We all be unemployed and livin in cabins like the old days - too poor to drive, but think of how 'green' it will be. WAIT! No, it won't.. the people outside our borders that supply us with cheap goods for our wally worlds and X-marts will destroy this old earth twice as fast.
