Morgantown, W.Va. (AP) -- Three weeks after accepting the job, James Clements has signed a two-year contract to become West Virginia University's next president.

Currently Provost at Maryland's Towson University, Clements won the job March 6 and Starts work June 30. He signed the agreement Friday and will be paid $450,000 a year.

That's $195,000 more than former president Mike Garrison, who resigned last summer over a master's degree scandal involving the governor's daughter.

Clements also gets the same percentage increase as any awarded to other non-classified staff.

45 year-old Clements has pledged to increase salary and benefits for faculty and staff, cut the university's student-teacher ratio and strengthen WVU's research and academic standing.
