WV Calorie Bill's Fate Is Up For Grabs

Charleston, WV (AP) -- It's changed more times than the soup of the day, and now the question for West Virginia's bill mandating calorie counts on restaurant menus is whether it has enough steam to make it to Gov. Joe Manchin.

The Health Committee in the House of Delegates advanced a version of the bill removing a senate amendment exempting local and regional restaurant chains from the proposal.

That's likely to make Manchin happy.

The governor thinks the senate amendment was unfair.

But if the bill makes it out of the house, it has to go back to the upper chamber.

The senate rejected a version similar to the one now before the house committee on government organization.

The restaurant industry says the legislature should wait for congressional action.
