Charleston, WV (AP) -- Wastewater treatment projects designed to protect the environment and put people to work have received funding from the federal government.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday the state will receive nearly $49 million from the federal stimulus package.

The money will go to the state Department of Environmental Protection to be loaned out through the state's low-interest clean water state revolving loan fund.

EPA says the state will receive another $12.2 million later this year for projects that are determined to be green infrastructure, will improve water and energy efficiency or are innovative in their design.
