Morgantown, WV (AP) -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery for a knee injury suffered in a fall.
Rockefeller's office said Thursday the 71-year-old West Virginia democrat tore a tendon Wednesday on rain-slickened steps outside the Mountainlair at West Virginia University in Morgantown.
The accident occurred after Rockefeller met with WVU Students.
Public appearances scheduled Thursday in Weirton and Wheeling were canceled.
Rockefeller's office said the surgery was successful and the Senator expects to resume his schedule as soon as possible.
The office also said Rockefeller is grateful for the well-wishes and support he's received.
