Beckley, WV (Ap) -- Storms that spawned flooding in West Virginia also extinguished forest fires.
Ben Webster with the State Division of Forestry told the Register-Herald that there hasn't been a forest fire in more than a week.
Webster said Tuesday that leaves on trees are out across the state and ground cover has returned. He says that allows moisture to stay in the ground.
West Virginia's spring fire season ends May 31.
