Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- An Iraq war veteran and the youngest republican in the Ohio House has announced he will run for State Treasurer in 2010.
Thirty-one-year-old State Rep. Josh Mandel said Thursday that he was encouraged to run for the statewide office during recent visits with businesses and citizens across Ohio.
Incumbent Treasurer Kevin Boyce has said he plans to run for re-election in 2010.
The democrat was appointed by Gov. Ted Strickland in December to replace Richard Cordray, who had won election as Ohio Attorney General.
Mandel is a two-term state lawmaker from northeast Ohio.
He served two tours of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Marines.
