Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- President Barack Obama's $787 billion economic spending package reaches Ohio's roads Monday when construction crews begin work to widen a highway ramp in Cleveland.

The repair work widening a ramp at the intersection of Interstates 490 and 77 is one of 17 projects about to get underway thanks to stimulus funding.

The contracts awarded by the Ohio Department of Transportation represent about $16.5 million in stimulus funds.

Other projects include repair work on Interstate 271 in Summit County and resurfacing U.S. 22 in Perry County in southeastern Ohio.

Construction companies that are among the first to get stimulus contracts are welcoming the work, but the projects are not enough to immediately reverse job losses in the industry.
