Dayton, Ohio (AP) -- A retired New Yorker who spends four months a year with her daughter in Ohio has achieved a life-long goal: A high school equivalency diploma.
Eighty-nine-year-old Marie Adamski got her GED certificate Monday at Greene County Career Center in suburban Dayton.
Her daughter, Susan Svendfen of Huber Heights, helps teach the GED class there.
Adamski says she finished 12 years of high school in Long Island, N.Y., but was one credit short of graduating when she went to work in her parents' bakery and later at a factory during World War II.
Career center officials say Adamski's case is rare but not unique. Classes are usually split between younger and older students in similar circumstances.
