At a time when so many people are out of a job and in need of some help, the place that offers that assistance is also seeing cuts.

The Washington County Department of Job and Family Services just received a state budget cut of $586,000.

Director Tom Ballengee says this means the termination of several grants that helped fund community programs; many of which benefit children and education.

"It just seems ironic that in times like these when we've seen so many more people come in the door, that our services are actually cut, and it doesn't make sense to me," Ballengee said.

He says the department is doing everything it can to not layoff employees or cut any of its basic programs, such as food stamps, medicaid and childcare.
