Hundreds gathered to greet the American Queen Sternwheeler in Marietta.

This five night cruise from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati is hitting up all the key historic spots- and Marietta is a staple along the voyage.

"This stops in Cincinnati, this stops in Pittsburgh, and it stops in Marietta, so we must be
pretty special, really and truly," said Dave Hawkins, a local Navy vet.

It was built in 1995, but with the look of a steamboat from the 19th century.

The American Queen is the only true paddle-wheeled steam-powered vessel left that people can actually stay on.

It has 220 luxury suites, 3 full restaurants and a grand saloon.

It's a taste of what life was like at the dawn of the nation, with all of the modern day comforts and safe-guards.

Three tour buses follow the sternwheeler, giving guests a chance to check out the points of interest at each stop.

Crew members and staff say it's a great experience to be a part of.

"Everyday we're getting to make new friends, meet new people, and just see middle America," said Michael Brown, the ship's hotel manager.

The American Queen will travel 3 more weeks on the Ohio River, then it's off to the Mississippi until October.

The last tour will be Memphis to New Orleans in November.
