UTILITY ISSUED BOIL WATER ADVISORY

On 6/29/12; an electrical power problem occurred causing the Route 2/Emerson and Sayre Avenue Booster Stations to fail. This condition has caused reduced pressure in the distribution system and the potential for contamination of your water. As a precautionary measure the Parkersburg Utility Board recommends that residents in the listed areas boil the tap water before drinking.

The Sayre Avenue Booster Station provides water to the Rosemar water storage tank that supplies the following areas; Woodland Park, Canterbury Drive, Spruce Rise Road, Old Rosemar Road, Hazel St., Hazel Avenue, Kay St., Linda Lane, Crestview Circle, Briscoe Road, Orchard Ave., Sayre Ave., College Parkway, Meadowcrest Drive, Dempsie Ave., Wyndom Knob and South Campus View Drive

Route 2/Emerson Ave. Booster serves Emerson Ave. from 46th St. to Bull Creek Road and Paddock Green Drive.

CONDITIONS INDICATE THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT YOUR WATER COULD BE CONTAMINATED. TESTING HAS NOT OCCURRED TO CONFIRM OR DENY THE PRESENCE OF CONTAMINATION IN YOUR WATER.

What should I do?

* DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

What happened? What is being done?

Water service will be restored as soon as possible. The water will be sampled and tested for bacteria as a precaution. An update will be provided when the results of the tests are known.

For more information contact the Utility Board Office at (304) 424-8535 or at 125 19th St. Parkersburg, WV 26101. General guidelines on ways to lessen the health risk are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791.

Press Release

The Parkersburg Utility Board would like to clarify the status of the water distribution system. The electrical power was restored to the water treatment plant on Saturday, June 30th. The plant has been producing sufficient water to supply the distribution system since that time. There are no plans to shut down any part of the water distribution system.

Boil water advisory was issued for two service areas affected by the electrical outage. The power to the booster stations that serves the Sayre Avenue, College Parkway, Rosemar Road, Briscoe Run, Paddock Green Drive, Woodland Park and the Canterbury Drive areas has not yet been restored. These areas may experience low pressure and possible loss of service until the power is restored.

If further issues develop additional announcements will be released.

Thank you,

Eric Bennett

General Manager
