They were introduced during the 2012 election, but it isn't guaranteed yet whether community voting sites will remain for future Wood County elections.

Employees of the Wood County Clerk's office told the county commission Monday it isn't certain whether off-year elections would attract as many early voters as last year's elections did.

Still, County Clerk Jamie Six would like to have it continued for all future elections.

"Had we not done the community sites during the general election," Six said, "we would have had the lines here in Wood County that you hear about throughout the country, because it takes the voter so long to get through the machine, and we only have so many machines to put out there."

In addition to the downtown site, the Judge Donald F. black Annex, early voting also was conducted at the Williamstown and Vienna City buildings, and at the Lubeck and Mineral Wells volunteer fire departments.

The Vienna and Lubeck locations each attracted more than 1,000 voters.

Community voting polls are officially open Tuesday in Wood County.

The bad weather didn't keep people from voting earlier Tuesday.

Wood County Clerk Jamie Six says you can vote at any of the community polling locations, even if it's not your assigned precinct.

Many people say they take advantage of this opportunity because the lines aren't long.

"I just wanted to get it over with as soon as possible and the crowds weren't bad so that was a big help," Betsy Reger says.

"I just wanted to come out and cast my vote early and make sure I got it done and it's out of the way now so we'll wait and see what the results are," Bob Reger adds.

The community polling locations include the Judge Black Annex, Vienna and Williamstown City Buildings and the Lubeck and Mineral Wells Fire Stations.

Early voting continues in West Virginia though 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 3rd.
