The Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Department held their annual ice cream social Saturday afternoon.
With music, food and friends the social is a yearly hit and, Deerwalk Fire Chief Kim Marshall explains, the community's support helps make sure the fire department is able to operate.
"We have state funding, we have local county funding and then we have the money that we raise by ourselves through donations and this ice cream social," Chief Marshall says. "The ice cream social generates between $5,000 and $6,000. That's about 10% of our budget now."
The chief says the rising cost of equipment means every last bit of money donated helps and he thanks the community for their continued support.
