The Marietta Board of Education has named an interim superintendent for the upcoming school year.

Monday night, board members approved Dr. Harry Fleming for the post.

Dr. Fleming previously held the position of Superintendent for Belpre City Schools, but retired last year.

Board President, Greg Gault, believes Fleming will be able to hit the ground running since he previously served as a Principal in the Marietta School District.

Gault adds that Fleming is already familiar with staff and administrators in the district.

Dr. Fleming will start August 1 and his contract will end in July of 2012.

Gault says the search to permanently fill the position will begin sometime in January.

It's really strange when most of these derogatory comments are from outside of Washington County. So does Vienna or Parkersburg residents pay our county and school districts taxes? I didn't think so!

Dr. Fleming should have been named Marietta superintendent 10 years ago when Dora Jean Bumgarner retired. Nicki's argument against his appointment would be more persuasive if she'd spell and punctuate at a sixth grade level. We are talking about EDUCATION, after all.

Stop the double and triple dipping. The poor taxpayers can no longer afford paying teachers to retire at age 55 whwn they are obviously physically fit to keep working at a teaching job. Taxpayers just can not afford it anymore.

Washington County is full of double dippers. Not only from within the county, but all of the folks that retire from Wood County teaching jobs, then move across the river to teach a few more years. Crazy!!!

All of the school systems in Washington County is just one big revolving door. Want a new job as a super. in another school district----just drive 10 mile any direction and they will hire you...AGAIN!! Then you'll screw things up there and move on to the next district. Life is good in Washington County.

I hope people will understand now why the levys that have failed in the past will fail again.People are tired of this double dipping retirement that goes on in the schools buddy system.People are tired of throwing away their hard earned money for double dippers like Mr. Fleming. This douple dipping also goes on in Parkersburg and Vienna too.

Fleming has already retired twice as a superintendent. How many retirement checks is he drawing from the taxpayers?

I think this is great news!!! Mr. Fleming was in Marietta City Schools when I was little, and he was great. It would be nice if he were to be more than just an interim superintendent.

Belpre didn't want him but Marietta took him in? Real smart.
