A "healthy" $5,000 helps make school-age youngsters healthier.
The money was awarded Friday morning to Franklin Elementary School by the Highmark Foundation.
The school will use it for its "Fit to Learn" early morning physical education program.
" We're going to purchase additional hula hoops, basketballs jump ropes; all those things kids love to do in the mornings to enhance them getting to play in the morning," says Principal Melissa Powers. "We think it's very important to be active, and this program allows us to provide additional physical education opportunities outside the school days."
Among the plans, buying new equipment for the gym.
Franklin encourages youngsters to take part in exercise programs before school, encouraging them to have a healthy lifestyle.
