COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio officials acknowledge that a state website identifying the whereabouts of convicted sex offenders recently listed people no longer required to register.

Deputy Superintendent Stephen Raubenolt with the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation says the glitch resulted from human error. Columbus station WBNS-TV reports the problem happened when a private company took over running the registry in early October and has since been fixed.

Raubenolt doesn't know how many sex offenders mistakenly reappeared in the system though he says the number was probably in the hundreds. He says the state is sorry and that officials don't want bad or inaccurate information displayed to the public.

A group called Families Against the Registry says men on the registry, their wives and children suffered because of the error.
