Wood County Vote Certified

Updated: 11/19/2012 5:55 P.M.

The results of the November sixth local elections in Wood County are now final.

The county commission voted to certify those results, which included the re-election of Parkersburg's mayor and a Wood County commissioner, and the election of a new mayor in Vienna, as well as the passage of a county library levy.

Statewide election results won't be certified until Wednesday.

There was a change in the results from last week's Wood County election, but it did not involve a local candidate.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, who won re-election last Tuesday, also won Wood County.

Last Tuesday's unofficial results showed challenger Bill Maloney leading in the county.

Other than that, no local outcomes changed, and most of the results will be certified on Monday.

"We're in recess now as the board of canvassers until Monday at 9:25. They will reconvene to certify the local races," says County Clerk Jamie Six. "The statewide races will have to wait until the last county in West Virginia makes their declaration, to start that 48-hour period. So it will probably be next Thursday before we can do that."

Among ballot issues, the Wood County library levy added more "yes" votes to its total.

The issue passed last Tuesday with nearly 61% of the vote.
