Help With Heating Bills

More Video...

Cold weather means the heat is on and the heating bills start adding up.

Washington-Morgan Community Action is there to help.

Their Winter Crisis Program started November 1 and goes through March.

The program helps income-eligible households maintain their heating source or get it turned on.

They can set people up with emergency assistance, the regular heat program and the percentage of income payment plan.

It's a packed office there since it began Friday morning at 6.

"The price of everything has risen, the economy is really bad, their food stamps have been cut, they are making choices between medications, food, housing, utilities...they are robbing Peter to pay Paul," says Mary Bayless, Senior Case Manager.

Bayless says they are already on over load.

People waited all day Friday and were asked to come back first thing Monday morning.

To be eligible a household needs to be less than 175 percent of the poverty level.
