A recession and a massive storm, things have been rough for home builders in the valley, but local experts think it's about to turn around.

It's been a slow couple of years for the home building industry in the valley.

"The home building industry has really down turned....a really big downturn," says John Farnsworth, Executive Officer for the Mid-Ohio Valley Home Builders Association.

The recession put a hold on many plans to build., with only one home being built in Parkersburg two years ago, but local experts are hoping for a turn around.

"We think this home show is going to be a really good home show because the past few years has been a big downturn in the economy and has really affected the home building industry and it looks like they've broken loose and we've got a lot of vendors and we think there is going to be a lot of work this year. We feel that there's going to be some construction coming this spring," Farnsworth adds.

For some local vendors, they're already seeing a spike in business. The summer storms were a blessing for them, booked for weeks with damage repair and now they're hoping to use this weekend's home show as a way to get even more clients.

"We got a little bit from the storms we had June 29th but I think a little bit is people are wanting to spend their money now after a recession," says David VonVille with Pro Co.

"After the storm we had last summer I know a lot of people are putting in generators and we have several vendors that install generators," says Farnsworth.

Generators plus everything else a homeowner or potential builder could ask for. It's a one stop shop at the Great American Home Show.

Farnsworth says, "this is a place for people to come and pick up all the new ideas."

'Energy efficient windows and energy efficient roofing, with the tax credit still on roofing, why wouldn't you do it? You're gonna save more money in the long run," adds VonVille.

The Great American Home show runs this weekend at the former Big Bear building in Park Shopping Center.

The hours are Fri. Feb. 8th from 4:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m., Sat. Feb. 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sun. Feb. 10th from noon to 4:00 p.m.
