Free, hot meals were served at various area churches on Thanksgiving.

Dozens of volunteers at Norwood United Methodist Church in Marietta held their annual Thanksgiving community dinner at noon, as did organizers at First Christian Church of Parkersburg.

The churches served hundreds in our community turkey dinners with all the trimmings.

"It satisfies me to see the people come in that really need a hot meal, probably the only hot meal they had this week," says Tom Insley, Chairman of the Norwood dinner.

"A lot of these people, this is where they come," says Pastor Janice Hill, with the First Christian Church. "This is their Thanksgiving. Families come here, and people that we see once a year. It's awesome."

Volunteers at Norwood United Methodist started cooking at six Thanksgiving morning.

By 10:30 they had shipped out more than 200 meals.

At First Christian, the cooking began on Tuesday.
