Making sure the dogs stay cool in the summer and away from snow in the winter.
The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley is getting a new extended outside roof.
Construction will take about a week.
Director Steve Herron says they discussed it over the winter and decided they had money in the building and fund trust for the project.
"And what that's gonna do is let us keep our dogs out longer, to get more air time and more outside time," he says. "Because obviously with the hot weather it's hard to keep an animal out longer than you should so, this extended roof is going to allow them to get a lot more outside time."
Herron says he doesn't know when they did an extension of any kind.
He says the building has been an original since 1980, so it was time to add on to be able to get the dogs outside more.
