UPDATE 5/28/2014 5:00 PM
Investigators say 77-year-old William Gotschall of Belpre collapsed while climbing down a six-foot-tall ladder shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Gotschall fell four or five feet on his head on his Beach Dr. driveway
Emergency responders performed CPR on-scene, but he didn't respond. They then took him to an area hospital with his wife and a friend riding along.
"Just a family guy. He had a friend here helping him, a neighbor. His wife was here too, pretty tragic. It's a small community, probably 20-houses on the street here. They're probably all pretty close," said Sgt. Bradley Holbert with the Washington Co. Sheriff's Office.
Neighbors say Gotschall was an active man who loved boating and being on the water, but he had some medical issues over the winter and that seemed to slow him down.
