Show your appreciation for our Vietnam veterans with a warm welcome home at the Veteran's Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Gary Farris, a Navy vet and director of the museum recalls the less than stellar reception for Vietnam vets when they returned. There was no hero’s welcome, no fanfare, no ticker-tape parade.
Now they get their due; the designation of March 30 as Vietnam Veterans Day was signed into law in 2012.
“We ask that Vietnam veterans come in and let us thank them for their service, we ask that the public come in and thank them for their service and shake their hand, because they didn't get that 40 years ago like they do now or like they did in World War II,” Farris says.
He says that’s what this is all about, honoring these men and women, giving them their just respect and showing them how much their sacrifice meant all those years ago.
The open house is this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum.
